As busy mamas we usually do not have much time to ourselves in the morning. If your morning looks anything like mine I’m assuming you are usually awoken by a tiny body jumping on you or yelling “mommy!” There are some mornings, although far and few between, I am actually awake before my daughter and actually get to at least start my morning routine. Some days I have to adjust my routine but that’s okay! You will find what works for you.
On the rare mornings I do wake up before my daughter, my first priority is COFFEE! Hi, my name is Ashley, and I am a coffee addict. If you are a morning person, teach me your ways! I am NOT a morning person and never have been. I need my coffee before I can start to function for the day.
GET SOME WATER! I am glued to my water bottle. Water is so important for our bodies. There are so many benefits including skin health, brain function and energy levels. I honestly enjoy drinking water, but not all people do. If you struggle to get enough water in, see this post.
Next, I take a few minutes to complete my gratitude practice. If you want to read more details about my gratitude practice, click here. I’m a strong believer in starting my day from a positive mindset. Even on the days I am not feeling well or did not get enough sleep. This is part of my morning routine I try never to skip. Especially with all the craziness of this year, I have appreciated this practice more and more.
I then try and get in at least 30 minutes of movement. What this looks like depends mostly on my work day. Some days it is actually going to the gym (which is now on zoom due to Covid) and others it is taking a walk around the block. I prefer to get my movement in first thing in the morning, but some days are just too busy. If this is the case, I try and be sure to go for a walk with the family or run around with my daughter after work. No matter what your movement looks like, just try to make this a priority. I promise you will feel better! I may not have the motivation to start my workout everyday, but after I’m done I NEVER regret it!
If I do get in a full workout, I always be sure to have a protein smoothie. I’m a chocolate lover, so my smoothie usually consists of chocolate protein, PB2, banana, and collagen powder. I sometimes switch this up and put in berries instead of the PB2. I’m currently using the Orgain protein powder and collagen peptides which I’m really enjoying. Smoothies are quick and I can take them on the go which is great. The possibilities are endless when it comes to smoothies so you can adjust according to your preferences.
It’s not always easy to have a routine in the morning, especially for a non-morning person like me. BUT, I highly recommend you find what works for you and try to stick to it. Once you start completing this routine, it will become a habit. You will find yourself just doing it without thinking about it. Like I said, not every day goes as planned and we are all busy. Just keep putting in the effort and you will succeed. And remember, always give yourself grace.
